My initial interest in physiotherapy started when I experienced my first long standing injury and required soft tissue therapy to relieve this pain. Following this I was curious to understand further into diagnosing injuries and different treatments.
In 2013 I started my degree in Sports Rehabilitation at St Marys University. In June 2014 I gained my Level 4 Sports Massage qualification with the addition pregnancy massage. In June 2014 Gemma Bigg Sports Massage was first open for business. I successfully graduated from university in July 2016 with a Sports Rehabilitation BSc Hons with accreditation from BASRaT.
From this I gained a job in my local hospital as a therapy assistant working alongside physiotherapists. I then went on to complete my Physiotherapy degree at the University of Southampton in 2020. I then went on to get a junior physiotherapy job where I worked as an assistant. I officially gained my registration in August 2020 however I was given early temporary registration in the April to be able to assist with the COVID19 crisis and started working 5 months earlier than expected. Now working full time and alongside my private clinic combining all my skills to give the best treatments.
I have had the opportunity to work with Argentina Rugby team, GB Triathletes, GB 800m and endurance runners. Other sports include rugby, cyclists, gymnasts, footballers, swimmers and bodybuilders.
I have worked at various sporting events including St Michaels Hospice Big Wheel, Hampshire Hoppit, Thames Path Challenge, London Moonwalk and London Men’s Survival of the Fittest.
